Saffron mil cap is the fungus typically associated with the Polish golden fall. And it’s true it is most abundant in October. Even if the weather has been dry and there aren’t many mushrooms saffron milk caps are always here in October. In some years the villagers of Izby and Banica have left at the purchasing center 2 tonnes of saffron milk caps.
We even have the Saffron Milk Cap Festival organized every year in September/October in Wysowa.
In the fall we serve saffron milk caps of all sorts: baked with garlic and parsley, pickled, soused, in a coulibiac with dried tomatoes. Last season’s specialty was saffron milk cap paste and lamb chops with saffron milk caps.
However, mushrooming lovers will find here other fungi; mainly boletus, birch bolete, suilus, chanterelle, parasol mushroom and boletus badius.
And where can you find those fungi?
Everywhere!
